Check, Mate. For Lizzi…..

For my maiden voyage into the Six Sentence Story Project. I’m silly, and I couldn’t decide which definition of “check” I liked. So…

 

He was transfixed by her, unable to move in any direction, and when she returned his gaze he felt as if he’d won the lottery.

They danced and drank all night, until the world outside was dark and quiet, waiting to see what came next, each of them surreptitiously sneaking glances at their cell phones when they thought the other wasn’t looking.

They retrieved their coats from the friendly lady at the door, his a simple black trench, hers the only mink in a room full of imposters.

He was a banker, he told her, as they were entwined afterwards, breathless and sated, and as she leaned over the side of the bed to reach for her purse, he asked what she did for a living.

“Contract killer,” she replied, smirking, and as his laughter bounced around the room like insufficient funds he asked who would hire a killer as unforgettable as you?

“Your wife,” she replied.
